Melik Duyar's Effective Usage of Your Brain and Creative Thinking public talk at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College.

On 11 August 2015, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Kuala Lumpur Main Campus welcomed a very special and distinguished speaker with exceptional mental skills Mr. Melik Duyar who shared his experience and mental skills in the "Effective Usage of Your Brain and Creative Thinking" public talk. The talk was held in conjunction with the 11th Malaysia Festival of the Mind with the aim of increasing public awareness about mental literacy in Malaysia.

Mr. Duyar hails from Ankara, Turkey and is recognized as the “the man who forgot to forget” in Turkish media as he has appeared in numerous TV shows demonstrating his mental arithmetic and memory skills. He received a gold medal as the "World Memory Champion" in the Memorization of Paintings and Images category at the World Memory Championship in 1994. He is listed as the world’s top ten mental athlete in "Buzan's Book of Genius". He is the co-founder and current board member of Memoriad World Mental Olympics which he created as a platform for mental athletes to compete and showcase their skills at an international level.

Mr. Duyar started off the talk on how he developed interests in memory and mental calculation. While he was still a student of the University of Minnesota, USA, he spent his weekends playing cards in various casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey. During the talk, he demonstrated his exceptional memory skills by memorizing and reciting random binary digits before a large audience.

Mr. Duyar explained that everyone could improve their creativity by using simple ideas in different combinations. Utilizing the brain requires practice as well as viewing issues with different perspectives. Our ideas and levels of creativity are limited to our thinking patterns which are shaped throughout our lives.

At the second half of talk, Mr. Duyar challenged the audience with 10 questions to test their creativity and rewarded a book each to participants with correct answers. He went on to reiterate that thinking patterns block creativity thus preventing some participants to solve the questions. Yet, he encouraged everyone to change his or her point-of-view when solving problems.

The talk ended with a question and answer session and group photograph session with the participants.
