The TARCian Run was held for the very first time at TAR UC Penang Branch Campus on 13 August 2017. The event was to promote a healthy lifestyle and to facilitate friendship amongst more than 1,000 TARCian alumni, TARCian graduates, TARCians, staff of the TAR UC Penang Branch Campus and members of the public who participated in the event.
The TARCian Run at TAR UC Penang Branch Campus was jointly organised by the TARCian Alumni Association (TAA) and the TAR UC Penang Branch Campus with the theme “Malaysia Negaraku, My Nation”.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toh Guat Guan, TAR UC Penang, Branch Campus Head, together with TAA Penang Charter Chairman, Mr Edmund Tan Wei Hong, the Event Organising Chairman, flagged off the 11.5 km and 5 km events respectively.
The event was held concurrently at all the campuses: the TAR UC KL Main Campus; Penang Branch Campus; Johor Branch Campus @ Segamat; Perak Branch Campus @ Kampar and Sabah Branch Campus @ Kota Kinabalu.
Participants of the TARCian Run 2017 received a free T-shirt and a finisher medal was awarded to those who completed the run within the stipulated time.

A Hair Donation Campaign in collaboration with Locks of Hope and Junior Chamber International was organized throughout the month of July. This campaign, led by lecturer-in-charge Ms Jayne Lim, took place throughout the month of July. Some 60 DQS year 1 semester 1 students, taking the course MPU-2312 Civic Consciousness and Volunteerism helped to plan and carry out the campaign successfully. They managed to collect 407 locks of hair and RM1,165 for NGO Locks of Hope.

A group of 31 students from Guangxi University for Nationalities, accompanied by their lecturer, Mr. Huang Changzhao, visited the Penang Branch Campus on 20 July 2017.The students were on a Study Tour to TARUC, Main Campus and also visited the Penang Branch Campus, which is part of a cultural and heritage educational tour.
Upon arrival, the group of students were given a warm welcome by Mr. Goh Keat Siew, Associate Dean, FAFB. Later, the students were given a campus tour by staff and student leaders. After the tour, they had a sumptuous lunch which included local delicacies such as “ice-kacang” and “nyonya kueh.”
The students were particularly impressed by the clean and spacious campus and the friendly staff and students who made them feel welcomed. Needless to say, they also enjoyed the delicious food. They also felt that TAR UC provides a good learning environment for students.

The grand Odyssey Night, an annual event organised by the Student Representative Council was aimed to discover hidden talents among the freshmen. In the process, freshmen and seniors build good long lasting relationships and assist freshmen to adapt to the TARUCian culture.
The theme for the Odyssey Night this year was “Fantasy: Castle in the sky”. The contestants were freshmen from the May 2017 intake. Preparations for the Odyssey Night began with many rounds of auditions. The first round was held in Week 2. A semi-final round was held in Week 6 to identify the most talented and capable contestants for the finals. Eventually, only five groups of talented contestants, together with four male and three female prom contestants were short listed for the final.
The event’s VIP was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toh Guat Guan, TAR UC Penang, Branch Campus Head. The three invited judges were Ms. Veronique Quah, Mr. Eazy Tan and Ms. Soo Jia Yong.
The much coveted title of Prom Queen was awarded to contestant F2, Ms. Teoh Jia Xin. The Talent King title was bagged by contestant T3, Mr. Ng Zi Heng and the title of Prom King was won by contestant M4, Mr. Yew Jun Jie. The evening ended with a victory parade.

A Korean Night was organised by the Christian Fellowship students together with students from Busan University of Foreign Studies, South Korea on 10 July of 2017 at DKG from 5.00 to 7.00 pm.
The students from South Korea shared about their culture, traditions and their lives in South Korea. Activities for the night included ice breaking; singing; short sketches and games. Apart from that, the students from Korea also shared about the true meaning of the gospel. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and were challenged to take a deeper walk with Jesus Christ.

A Green Campus Is A Great Campus - Tree Planting Project @ TARUC Penang (with the support from Tarcian Alumni Association)
The TARUC Penang Branch Campus’s Business Administration Society (BAS) organized a ‘No Fear Just Eat’ Food Fair from 19th to 20th June 2017 at the Main Foyer. The Food Fair was held to raise funds for BAS and also to donate part of the fund raised to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Penang Branch.
In order to make the best out of the Food Fair, the volunteers did research before the Food Fair to ensure that the vareties of food prepared would be plalatable to the audience.
Volunteers arrived as early as 8:00 am on both days of the Food Fair to make the necessary preparations. To draw the crowd to the Food Fair, the members also gave special performances.
After the Food Fair, the Food Fair president, Yeap Shi Tieh carried out a post-mortem to analyse flaws and strengths of the Food Fair. It is hoped that the experience and knowledge gained would be useful for future endeavours. The Food Fair was a great success and the members showed initiative, cooperation and great planning.
From the profit gained, RM1,400 was donated to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Penang Branch.

29 students and 2 lecturers from Coventry University (CU) arrived at TARUC Penang on 19th June 2017 and were welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Toh Guat Guan, 38 RAF students and TARUC staff members. A staff from Kuala Lumpur Main Campus, Mr. Ng Koh Thye, also accompanied the students from Coventry University.
After the welcoming speech, the visitors were taken on a campus tour. Amongst the places visited were the Department of Student Affairs, Study Abroad Unit, College Auditorium, Broadcasting Studio, Canteen and the Library. Thereafter, an ice breaking session was conducted where students from CU were taught lantern making by TARUC students. The day ended with a field trip to Kek Lok Si Temple.
A business game was played on the second day of the visit. Dr Maktoba Omar, the lecturer from Coventry University taught the students about companies’ logo and students were required to create logos using Lego. After lunch, CU students were taken on a Georgetown Heritage Cycling tour.
On the third day, CU students and TARUC students went for an industrial visit to Plexus in the morning. Staff from Plexus welcomed them with an introductory speech about Plexus and it was followed by a plant tour. In the afternoon, students went to visit BDO, one of the Big 5 accounting firm.
On the final day of the visit, a mini open day was held by CU students who set up booths to promote CU to TARUC students. The visit ended with a cultural session, Tang Yuan making and a sharing session.
The visit by CU staff and students to TARUC, Penang Branch Campus, facilitated interaction between CU students and TARUC students. Hopefully, this visit encouraged more TARUC students to join the dual award collaboration programme.

Thank you to Mr. Joel Gray, a senior lecturer, BA International Public Relations from Sheffield Hallam University for coming to TAR UC, Penang Branch Campus to share with our Year 2 DPR students on Dual Award Programme. Besides, he also delivered a guest lecture on " Celebrity and the power of persuasion". Indeed our students were enjoying his enthusiastic and fun-filled approach in the lecture hall just now. Well done Mr. Joel !! We would like to have you again in TAR UC, Penang.

The National Maths & Science Merdeka Challenge 2017 (M@S Challenge) was held for the first time successfully at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), Penang Branch Campus on Saturday, 20 May 2017. The M@S Challenge was held simultaneously nationwide across five TAR UC campuses to commemorate Malaysia’s 60th independence anniversary.
TAR UC, a champion of excellence in education, organised the M@S Challenge with the objective of stimulating interest in Science and Mathematics subjects among secondary school students in view of the reduced number of students opting for science subjects.
A total of 79 students from 9 secondary schools in Penang participated in the Challenge. There were 2 categories; namely the Individual Category and the Group Category, with 2 rounds of challenges for each category. It was mandatory for the students to pass Round 1 before they could proceed to Round 2.
The Group Category champions from Chung Ling Private High School took home a cash prize of RM1,200. The same amount of cash was also awarded to the school. The teams from Penang Chinese Girls’ High School won the Second and Third Prize. The Second Prize winners won a cash prize of RM800.00 for themselves and the same amount of cash for their school. The Third Prize winners won a cash prize of RM600.00 for themselves and the same amount of cash for their school.
The Individual Category champions all hailed from Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Chung Ling. Champion, Tan Wei Kit won a cash prize of RM300.00, Second Prize Winner, Loh Wei Tao won a cash prize of RM200.00 and Third Prize Winner, Lim Jun Hao won a cash prize of RM150.00
To spice up the event, all the participants were taken on a Campus Tour where they were shown various electronic engineering robot demonstrations by the Electronic Engineering Society students from the Faculty of Engineering, building models by the Faculty of Built Environment, Short Films assignments produced by students from the Faculty of Social Science, Arts and Humanities. We also took the opportunity to open Course Counselling Booths and took the participants on a visit to the Library. The event ended at 4.30 pm.

We are proud to announce that two groups of students from Bachelor of Business (Hons) Accounting and Finance, TAR UC Penang Branch Campus emerged as Champions and 2nd Runner Up for the Accounting Professional Avenue 2017. The event was organised by University Sains Malaysia Accounting Society on 24 - 26 March 2017.
A huge crowd turn out to attend the motivational talk by Mr. Wesley Chan and inspiring sharing of Dr. Soo Wincci's personal experience that was scheduled on 23 March 2017 at Penang Branch Campus. The programme's aim was to propel students to realise and maximise their potential by believing in their cause, purpose and passion.
