TAR UMT celebrated the official launch of its Sabah Branch in Alamesra, Kota Kinabalu, coinciding with the University’s 55th anniversary. The launch was honoured by the presence of Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, Chief Minister of Sabah, who was welcomed by Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation, Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, Chairman of the Board of Governors of TAR UMT, and Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT.

Sabah Branch enables TAR UMT to bring its Beyond Education philosophy and quality higher education to East Malaysia, while supporting efforts to nurture highly-skilled professionals who are capable of driving Sabah’s economy and further propelling the region’s development.

TAR UMT became the first higher education institution in Malaysia to be conferred the ‘Esports Academy of the Year’ award at the Malaysia Esports Awards 2023. The Malaysia Esports Awards is an awards ceremony held to honour the brightest and most remarkable contributors in the rapidly growing esports industry in Malaysia. The event is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF), and Esports Integrated (ESI).

The filming of 'The Story of TARCians' begins following a special lensing ceremony held at Sek Yuen Restaurant in Jalan Pudu, the first shooting location for the 90-minute documentary film. The ceremony was graced by Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, Chairman of the Board of Governors (BOG), TAR UMT and Chairman of TAR UMT Alumni Council (TAC). 'The Story of TARCians' is an upcoming film that is produced to document the history of the then TAR College (TARC) and how TARC was developed as one of the first institutions in the country to offer professional, sub-professional and technical courses, while focusing on the human aspect including the challenges and obstacles faced by the institution's founding leaders and stakeholders who were involved from the early stages till current days.

In a bid to preserve the important memories of this prestigious higher education institution spanning over five decades, TAR UMT launched the TARC: The Red Bricks Journey project. The project reached out to students, staff, alumni, former staff, and cherished friends of TARC, TAR UC, and TAR UMT to share their stories, memories, and personal experiences during their time with the institution. The recollections will be compiled, documented, and later be featured in the new gallery located in TAR UMT’s new Student Centre once its construction is completed in early 2025. Another aspect of the project is to produce a special documentary film that will showcase the history of TARC and how this institution’s development as one of the first institutions of higher learning in Malaysia to offer academic, technical and professional training and qualification. This project is an initiative by Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, Chairman of TAR UMT Alumni Council (TAC) and Member of the Board of Governors (BOG), TAR UMT.

A special dinner called ‘A Celebration of TAR UMT’s Upgrade and its Student Loan Fund Donors’, graced by His Royal Highness Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj and Her Royal Highness Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin was held to appreciate all the student loan fund donors who have established student loan funds at TAR UMT. The dinner was also a celebration of the institution’s upgrade to University status with its alumni. Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, a Member of the Board of Governors of TAR UMT and Chairman of the TAR UMT Alumni Council was instrumental in rallying the support of the various TAR UMT alumni associations and supporters to establish 66 new student loan funds with a total value of RM23 million. With this, TAR UMT now has 119 student loan funds to help needy students to study at TAR UMT.

With the launch of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (‘TAR UMT’) 10-year Roadmap, the course for the next 10 years has been set for the institution to achieve its goal to be a leading University capable of transforming the future. The 10-year Roadmap Booklet was unveiled and officially launched by YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation, who is also the Minister of Transport and President of Malaysian Chinese Association (‘MCA’) and he was accompanied by YB Senator Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, Deputy Minister of Education, YB Senator Datuk Lim Ban Hong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Ybhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Governors of TAR UMT, members of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation and Board of Governors of TAR UMT as well as Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT.

The much-awaited announcement of the upgrading of TAR UC to a full-fledged University, named Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (‘TAR UMT’) took place on 12 April 2022. YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation who is also the Minister of Transport and President of Malaysian Chinese Association (‘MCA’) announced the joyous news to an audience of TARCians comprising alumni, staff and students as well as industry partners and well-wishers of the institution. Present to witness the historic event included YB Senator Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, Deputy Minister of Education, YB Senator Dato’ Sri Ti Lian Ker, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Senator Datuk Lim Ban Hong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of TAR UMT’s Board of Governors and Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT.

TAR UC marked a brick and mortar milestone on 30 October 2021 with the groundbreaking ceremony of the Student Centre. The highlight of the event was when YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation and President of the Malaysian Chinese Association (‘MCA’) fired up a piling machine showcasing the symbolic breaking of the ground at the site.

The event was witnessed by YB Senator Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, Deputy Minister of Education, YB Senator Dato’ Sri Ti Lian Ker, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Senator Datuk Lim Ban Hong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, YBhg Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of TAR UC’s Board of Governors and Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC.

Targeted to be completed by 2024,  the new Student Centre is a dedicated hub for student’s activities which will be equipped with many modern facilities and amenities, aimed at enhancing multidimensional learning for students.

TAR UC obtained SETARA 5-Star rating for the year 2018/2019 under the University Colleges category by the Ministry of Higher Education, in its inaugural participation.

Reenacting the historic moment that shaped and formed the then TAR College, a tree-planting ceremony was conducted with the families of the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj and the late Tun Tan Siew Sin on 23 September 2020.

The tree planting ceremony was recreated by Tunku Muinuddin Putra and Datin Sri Sharifah Menyalara Hussein, grandchildren of the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, and Tan Siok Eng, Datin Paduka Tan Siok Choo and Tan Siok Lee, daughters of the late Tun Tan Siew Sin. Both families also unveiled a plaque on each tree to commemorate the occasion.

The families planted one rain tree (Samanea Saman) each in front of Bangunan Tun Tan Siew Sin.

TAR UC celebrated the 40th anniversary of the TAR UC Student Loan Fund on 13 November 2019.

The TARC – Lee Thong Lock Family Student Loan was also established during the donor appreciation ceremony, making it the 39th donor loan.

TAR UC is one of only 2 IHLs chosen as i4.0 Technology Expert Centre, a collaborative effort with Malaysia Productivity Corporation ('MPC'), which is a statutory body under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry ('MITI').

The MoU was signed between TAR UC and MPC on 7 November 2019.

The TAR UC E-Commerce Training Centre was launched on 5 November 2019 at the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus.

A collaborative effort between TAR UC, Lingnan Modern Technician College (‘LNMTC’) and Guangdong Zhuoyue Qiancheng Education Services Co. Ltd (Best Study Education Group), the training centre marks TAR UC as the first institution of higher learning in Malaysia to offer practical hands-on e-commerce skills and industry exposure for students.

TAR UC and the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia ('BQSM') signed a Memorandum of Understanding ('MoU') on 24 June 2019, putting TAR UC's quantity surveying graduates on the fast track to obtaining a professional membership with BQSM.

TAR UC was awarded the Premier Digital Tech University status by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation ('MDEC') for the second time on 17 June 2019.

This status reaffirms TAR UC as the institution of higher learning that delivers first-class theoretical and practical training in digital technology.

16 - 17 March 2019

TAR UC held a grand ceremony for its 50th Anniversary celebration on 17 March 2019. The main ceremony saw many alumni from far and wide coming together to celebrate the occasion with their alma mater. The highlight of the main ceremony was the sealing of the time capsule which will be opened by the TARC Community in 2069.

There was also a concert held on 16 March 2019 in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary celebration showcasing songs composed by the famous Red Brick Society.

TAR UC’s Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Logistics and Supply Chain Management was accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia (‘CILTM’) on 20 August 2018.

With this, the aforementioned programme is recognised as equivalent to CILT Professional Qualification. Students will also be able to register as an Affiliate Member and graduates will be able to upgrade their status to Member of CILT (‘MILT’) after gaining 3 years of relevant working experience.

They will also be exempted from all 13 professional papers.

TAR UC launched its Integrated Innovation Hub or I2 Hub in short on 1 August 2018 at its Kuala Lumpur Main Campus.

The hub will serve as a centre of intelligence harnessed from all the faculties within TAR UC and turns it into a catalyst for the creation of innovative applications and technologies aimed at four key areas: Smart Campus for Education 4.0, Industry 4.0, Agriculture 4.0 and Corporate Social Responsibility ('CSR') services.

With I2 Hub, TAR UC has been conferred the honour of being the first institution of higher learning in Malaysia to embark on developing and incorporating digital technology to turn TAR UC into Smart Campus through in-house development, and the first institution of higher learning in Malaysia to provide consultancy to the industry in the implementation of the real-time Industry 4.0 solutions.

TAR UC named 10 buildings in Kuala Lumpur Main Campus after its founding leaders at the "Going 50: People Behind The TARC History" ceremony held on 13 February 2018 to pay tribute to these leaders as well as to signify the commencement of a countdown towards TAR UC's golden 50th anniversary celebration.

Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation and Board of Governors, TAR UC, officiated the countdown by naming 10 buildings after 10 luminaries who played key roles in the establishment and growth of the then TAR College to TAR UC today.

TAR UC was awarded the Premier Digital Tech University status on 28 August 2017 by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation ('MDEC'), officially making it one of the eight institutions in Malaysia to receive such recognition.

With this recognition, TAR UC is one of the selected universities to be the preferred institution for future digital talents. At the same time, TAR UC also sets the benchmark to other institutions of higher learning aspiring to be the preferred talent supplier for the digital tech industry.

The new purpose-built Pahang Branch Campus in Kuantan was successfully launched on 5 August 2017. The launch was officiated by Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Pemangku Raja Pahang and attended by YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Sri Diraja Haji Adnan bin Haji Yaakob, Pahang Chief Minister, YB Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation and Board of Governors, TAR UC, who is also the Minister of Transport, YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Member of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, YB Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC.

This purpose-built campus enables TAR UC to widen access to quality education in the East Coast region and at the same time play our role in supporting the growth of this region.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent purpose-built Sabah Branch Campus in Alamesra, Kota Kinabalu was held on 7 February 2017. The ceremony was officiated by Y.A.B. Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, Sabah's Chief Minister and witnessed by YB Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation & Board of Governors, TAR UC, YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Member of the Board of Trustees, TARC Education Foundation, YBhg Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC and YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Sri Richard Koh, Director of Rickoh Holdings Group of Companies.

Slated to be completed by 2019, the RM50 million purpose-built campus will replace the current branch in Donggongon, Penampang, Sabah.

Launch of Postgraduate Programmes and Postgraduate Library

TAR UC celebrated a grand launch of TAR UC s postgraduate programmes and postgraduate library at the East Campus in the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. The three postgraduate programmes launched are the Master of Business Administration ( MBA ) which is a taught Master s programme as well as the two research-based Master of Science programmes which focus on Physical Science and Life Science. The postgraduate library will supplement the educational needs of the staff and students of the postgraduate programmes.

TAR UC has established an integrated business incubator named as TARC Incubator located in Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. The Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business of TAR UC has been relocated to new premises located at the eastern part of TAR UC which is now known as the East Campus. The East Campus consists of one administration block, one lecture block comprising six lecture halls, one block comprising a canteen, a convenience store and tutorial rooms, four tutorial blocks and one postgraduate and research block.

The launching of the Korean Language Centre at TAR University College took place as part of the collaboration between TAR University College and Dankook University, Korea. This collaboration also paves the way for TAR University College Diploma graduates to be able to articulate into the 3rd year of a 4-year Bachelor degree programme of the corresponding discipline at Dankook University.

The launching of the new phase and naming of the new library building after YBhg Tan Sri Dato Dr Sak Cheng Lum, was held in Penang Branch Campus and graced by YB Dato Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Member of TARC Education Foundation, Secretary-General of Malaysian Chinese Association and Minister of International Trade and Industry II, as well as YBhg Tan Sri Dato Dr Sak Cheng Lum. The new phase of development at Penang Branch Campus consists of a 3-storey library building, two 4-storey faculty blocks and a twin lecture theatre hall.

Ground breaking ceremony for Pahang Branch in Kuantan was held on 16 May 2015. The ceremony was officiated by K.D.Y.T.M Tengku Mahkota Pahang and witnessed by Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of TAR University College Board of Governors and TARC Education Foundation Board of Trustees and Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR University College.

Located 5km from Kuantan town centre, this branch is purpose-built with 15 acres of land and it will replace the current branch in Karak, Pahang.

TAR UC and Sheffield Hallam University launched the Dual Award Collaboration in a launching ceremony.

Students who study the TAR UC Bachelor Degrees under the Dual Award programme with Sheffield Hallam University will spend one semester to study in Sheffield Hallam University, UK and awarded two Bachelor Degrees, one from TAR University College and another from Sheffield Hallam University upon successful completion of the programme.

ISO 9001:2008 Certification marks another milestone for TAR UC on its effort to continually improve and enhance its library services and examination services in assuring the highest quality.

The TAR UC - Coventry University Dual Award Launching Ceremony has officiated the collaboration between the two established institutions in offering the Dual Award programme. 8 Bachelor degree programmes of the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business are covered in the Dual Award collaboration with Coventry University.

The University of Salford's School of Arts and Media academic team came to TAR University College to meet the students from the Faculty of Social Science, Arts and Humanities ('FSAH') during the TAR UC - University of Salford Dual Award Launch and Project 2014 at DK ABF.

5 programmes from FSAH under the Dual Award allow students to either take the Dual Award or the Dual Award with Study Abroad option where students can study for one semester at the School of Arts and Media, University of Salford in the UK.

A presentation ceremony was held in recognition of two TAR University College programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, namely, the Bachelor of Estate Management (Honours) and Diploma in Technology (Property Management), that have received accreditation from the Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents Malaysia ( BOVAEA ).

TAR University College and IBM established Entrepreneurial Support Centre with the aim of nurturing industry-relevant skills and seed entrepreneurial culture among undergraduates. The Centre, housed within the Faculty of Applied Science and Computing, complements IBM s Academic Initiative On-Campus Center of Excellence ( CoE ) which was established in TAR University College in 2011.

TAR University College launched the Virtual Centre for Excellence in Professional Accountancy in partnership with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) on 21 May 2014. The Virtual Centre is set up to further enhance the value of our accounting programmes and output, namely students and graduates. The Centre will promote educational innovations in professional accountancy, organise scholarly activities in the area of accountancy and finance, conduct accountancy and finance related research activities, and collaborate with professional bodies, industries and overseas universities on training and development programmes to better equip our students with latest technical know-how and essential real life skills to better prepare them for an increasingly complex work environment where fast paced innovation and perpetual change is the constant.

As a gesture of appreciation to the donors of the TARC Trust Fund for the construction of the Student Centre, a recognition ceremony was held at TAR University College, Kuala Lumpur Main Campus on 24 February 2014. This event also served as a platform to communicate to the alumni and the public of the need to raise funds to expedite the development of the Student Centre. Estimated to cost RM30 million, the Student Centre aims to be the hub for students' activities that spur creativity, innovation and learning through communal sharing, experience and socialising.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has granted maximum exemption for Tunku Abdul Rahman University College's Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) programmes. Tunku Abdul Rahman University College now is also the only institution in the world approved by ACCA to run the Internally Assessed ACCA Fundamentals (Skills Module) programme.

TAR College has been upgraded to University College which will allow the institution to offer undergraduate degree programmes leading to the awarding of Bachelor degrees. With the upgrading, the College will thereafter be renamed as Tunku Abdul Rahman University College.

The upgrading was approved in the cabinet meeting on 5 December 2012. The Certificate of Registration was presented to the College in the launch ceremony held on 2 May 2013 which was graced by Yang Berbahagia Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, Chairman of the TAR College Council. With the certification of registration, the College will now officially operate as a University College.

TARCian Alumni Association Appreciation Nite Dinner was held on 21 st of September 2012 and graced by the Guest-of-Honour, YAB Dato Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia. In total, a congregation of about 3,000 TAR College fraternity attended the dinner, relishing the moment of meeting up with friends and lecturers.

On 27 June 2012 during the launching of the Innovating Malaysia Tour 2012, the Prime Minister, YAB Dato Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, announced that 74 TAR College Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes were granted retrospective recognition which will enable the graduates of the programmes to work in the public sector and eligible to apply for further studies in public universities.

OSK Investment Bank and TAR College officially opened the OSK Investment Bank - Investment Education Room in Cyber Centre. The establishment of the room was made possible with the win by TAR College students in the 2011 OSK Investment Challenge Competition.

TAR College signed MoU with National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences (KUAS) enabling TAR College students from School of Technology to proceed to KUAS to pursue their Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, as well as Mold and Die Engineering, upon completion of selected Diploma programmes.

Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) set-up regional office at TAR College Main Campus in Kuala Lumpur. TAR College also signed MoU on offering two new SHU programmes - Masters of Science in Cost and Project Management, and Project Management.

November 2011

TAR College signed an MoU with Leonard Personality Incorporated Sdn Bhd (LPI). The MoU allows both parties to embark on joint projects involving international collaborative research, share expertise and joint development of research leadership psychology and personality profiling.

TAR College signed an MoU with Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM) to officiate the appointment as FPAM s Approved Education Provider to provide Certified Financial Planner Certification ( CFP ) programme to the College students and alumni. TAR College students are exempted 3 modules out of 6 in the CFP programme.

TAR College paid tribute to the founding fathers; the late Tun Tan Siew Sin and the late Tan Sri Khaw Kai Boh by naming the new administrative building and Block A after the respective founders.

The historical event for TARC was launched by YB Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting. Bangunan Tun Tan Siew Sin and Bangunan Tan Sri Khaw Kai Boh are the two iconic buildings in the campus landscape. The establishment of new TARC gallery depicts the history, milestone and achievements of the College for more than four decades.

Bhd., which benefit TARC students and staff specifically from the School of Technology (SOT) and the experts of Khind-Mistral Industries in the areas of R&D projects related to applied research and consultancy such as designing, prototyping, manufacturing process and also human capital development and training.

TAR College organised its bi-annual International Conference on Learning & Teaching which was attended by 300 people from United Kingdom, Unites State of America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, South Africa and Bahrain.

The conference served as a platform to promote collaboration, discussion and sharing knowledge on latest methodologies in teaching and assessment as well as impact of technology in higher education landscape.

TAR College Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication (Public Relations) students initiated Green campaign which is ECOnnect , a phone-recycling-cum-environmental awareness campaign. It has led to a MoU signing and sponsorship agreement with Nokia. The success of ECOnnect has prompted Nokia to place eight units of mobile-phone recycling bins in the college to collect, properly manage and disposal of used phones and accessories.

TAR College developed a collaborative partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) to facilitate the LJMU honours degree for the College Advanced Diploma graduates to pursue a one-semester honours degree conversion programme at LJMU.

Based on TAR College 33 years of successful track record, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) extended an invitation to MCA to form a university. A working team comprising TAR College staff prepared the working papers for the formation of the university, named as Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

With the validation of the College Advanced Diploma programmes by Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), UK, the College Advanced Diploma graduates were accepted by SHU to complete a one-semester honours conversion programme for the award of relevant honours bachelor degree by SHU.

Our 20th Anniversary celebration included Pesta, fashion and cultural shows, lion dance performances and an academic exhibition. The Campus was opened to the public to view the College facilities.

The College held its first Convocation Ceremony at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

1981

Commencement of the construction of the Phase 2 building project on the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus which comprised a tutorial block, workshops, a student centre and a canteen. The expansion was necessary to meet the increasing demand for places of study at the College.

The student enrolment in 1980 stood at 6,272, a ninefold increase since the inception of the College in 1969.

May 1979

The College Council approved the establishment of an institutional tripartite linkage between TAR College, Campbell University, North Carolina, USA and Ulster Polytechnic, Northern Ireland, UK. Under the Tripartite Association, a Centre for Arts and Science was established under the School of Arts and Science of TAR College to administer the Bachelor of Science (BS), Campbell University degree programme.

Completion of the phase 1 College Complex in Kuala Lumpur.

Three British experts, Prof W. D. Ryan, Department of Electronics, Queen s University of Belfast, Prof F. D. Hales, Department of Surface Transport and Dr G. G. Lucas, Department of Transport Technology, both of Loughborough University of Technology, UK inspected the building site at the Main Campus, Kuala Lumpur.

Together with the assistance of the British Council and the Council for Technical Education and Training for Overseas Countries, British academics including these three experts advised on the College new courses and curriculum development.

By 1976, the College became one of the first institutions of higher learning in the country to offer professional, sub-professional and technical courses.

May 1974

The first batch of students under the School of Arts and Science for the BSc (External) University of London Examinations. TAR College phased out the University of London course by 1980, after the University of London terminated its BSc (Honours) External Degree worldwide. A total of 296 students from TAR College had graduated from this programme.

Y T M Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, planting a tree to commemorate the ground breaking ceremony for the permanent campus of the College in KL.

A 191acres of land in Setapak, KL was approved by the Government for the construction of the TAR College Main Campus.

Sep 1972 - College Establishment Day

YABhg Tun Hussein Onn, Minister of Education handed the Instrument of Government to YABhg Tun Tan Siew Sin, President of the College at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Kuala Lumpur. This instrument provided the legal framework for the administration of the College.

Establishment of the School of Business Studies, where the Diploma in Commerce students were prepared simultaneously for the examinations of ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), UK. The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), UK. In 1978, the School introduced the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UK examinations.

The College commenced operations with the pioneer intake of 320 students at the School of Pre-University Studies.

Press announcement on the establishment of TAR College by the Minister of Education, YBhg Tan Sri Mohamed Khir Johari in the presence of YBhg Tan Sri Khaw Kai-Boh, Chairman of the Working Team and committee members.
