TAR UMT once again finds itself in the spotlight at the 39th Nutrition Society of Malaysia Annual Scientific Conference, held on 30 and 31 July 2024. This recognition comes as TARCian Ms Chong Guey Yong was awarded first prize in the Young Researchers’ Symposium Award 2024 for her research project, titled "Feeding round-the-clock: A novel perspective from the Chrono-DM study to explore chrononutrition and its association with glycaemic outcomes in Malaysian adults with prediabetes."
Guey Yong's research delves into the relationship between meal timing and frequency (chrononutrition) and its effects on blood sugar levels. This study was inspired by the rising prevalence of diabetes and the urgent need for innovative management strategies. Her findings underscore the importance of not just diet quality but also the timing of meals in controlling blood sugar.
Guey Yong expressed her gratitude for TAR UMT's invaluable support throughout her research journey. “TAR UMT laid the foundation for this study, providing access to an extensive library collection that enabled me to conduct a comprehensive literature review and carry out detailed data analysis. I am especially thankful to Associate Prof Dr Koo Hui Chin, my research supervisor, whose expertise in longitudinal methodologies and unwavering support were important in shaping and refining the research protocol. Her guidance was crucial throughout the whole study,” she shared.
Winning first prize is a significant milestone for Guey Yong, inspiring her to continue striving for excellence. “This achievement has not only enhanced my academic profile but has also opened doors for future research collaborations. Additionally, it has given me the confidence to further explore my research, pursue advanced education, and mentor other researchers,” she explained.
Dr. Livy Chong Guey Yong, a PhD graduate of TAR UMT's Faculty of Applied Sciences (FOAS), has been selected to receive the Nutrition Society of Malaysia PhD Thesis Award.
