TAR UMT commemorated its 57th Foundation Day on 24 February 2026. Foundation Day commemorates the establishment of the then Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TAR College), when the very first class was held on 24 February 1969. The celebration, held at the TAR UMT Arena, was a joyous occasion attended by members of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors, staff, and alumni. Past principals and retirees also attended the meaningful celebration, where they also took the opportunity to view TAR UMT’s latest infrastructure development, TAR UMT Arena.
The event was graced by Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TARC Education Foundation. In his keynote address, Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee reflected on the University’s evolution from its modest beginnings as TAR College to a distinguished university renowned for producing high-achieving graduates.
"57 years ago, our founders worked with the strength and courage of a galloping horse to establish an institution dedicated to high-quality, affordable education for all Malaysians. Today, our 'Beyond Education' philosophy ensures our alumni are not only industry high-fliers but also grounded members of society who serve the needs of others".
This year’s celebration was of greater significance, as it coincided with the Lunar New Year and ushered in the Year of the Fire Horse. To mark the occasion, a series of cultural and commemorative activities took place:
- Calligraphy Session: Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee, alongside Board of Trustees members, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai and Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon, wrote special New Year greetings to symbolise strength and success.
