TAR UMT’s women’s basketball team emerged as Champions of the Elevate Sports Performance (ESP) ESP Varsity Basketball Championship 2026 after a three-week battle with the best university basketball teams in the country.

The event, held from 13 - 28 June 2026 at the ESP Basketball Arena in Petaling Jaya, is an annual basketball event aimed at promoting talent and development of basketball at the tertiary level.

The women’s team demonstrated consistency as early as the group stages, all the way to the finals, where they beat UCSI to claim the crown.

“Every player on our team brought something unique to the table, but individual talent was not the deciding factor – it was teamwork that won us this title. Since the first match, we made sure to keep communicating, reminded each other to stay calm even during setbacks on the court, and never lose faith in our strength as a team. Our belief in each other won us this crown,” said Yap Shi Qi, captain of the team.
