Wong Yik Han made his mark at the International Computer Driving License (‘ICDL’) Asia Digital Challenge 2018 Grand Finals in Bangkok, Thailand on 4-6 September 2018 after having brought home a bronze medal in the tertiary category.

The Diploma in Internet Technology Year 2 student was crowned champion (tertiary category) at the national level to earn the chance of representing Malaysia and TAR UC at the grand finals stage. After going toe-to-toe with 31 representatives from nine other Asian countries like Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and China, Yik Han successfully emerged as the second runner-up.

The ICDL Asia Digital Challenge is an annual competition open to secondary and tertiary students with the aim to identify and recognise individuals with talented ICT skills in Asia.

Since his victory at the national level, Yik Han revealed that he has doubled efforts to improve his ICT skills in preparation for his trip to Bangkok. “I realised I had a lot to work on even after winning at the national level. So I brushed up my skills with whatever time I had to prepare for the grand finals.”

“We were tested on selected ICDL modules including Advanced Word Processing, Advanced Spreadsheet and Advanced Presentation. My studies at TAR UC helped deepen my understanding of the subject matter, and my lecturer Ms Pua Bee Lian was very helpful in finding extra study materials and sample questions for me to practice before we flew to Bangkok,” said Yik Han.

On what his next step is after this achievement, Yik Han said the experience and knowledge he gained from the ICDL Asia Digital Challenge 2018 would be useful as he aims to graduate from his class with flying colours.
