TAR UMT students strike yet again, this time in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute Research Challenge 2022/ 2023 after being named as the 2nd Runner-up team during the national finals held at the One World Hotel on 27 February 2023.

Students Ho Hi Wy, Nicholas Wong Wei Kin, Goh Kah Win, Woo Hang Ngai, and Lim Shu Fei, all from the Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons) programme, managed to stand toe-to-toe with 32 teams from other higher education institutions in Malaysia to clinch the 2nd Runner-up spot. The team earned praises from the panel of judges comprising investment professionals and CDA charterholders for their solid financial analytical abilities.

Yi Wy said their game plan was to be as prepared as possible before the finals, adding: “We put in a lot of hard work by studying annual reports and reading a lot of analyst research reports. Besides, we also held numerous meetings and training sessions.”

He also credited Mr Wang Ah Yong, Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (FAFB), saying: “Mr Wang was very helpful by sharing his experience and wisdom. He also always reminded us to enjoy the process, to not feel inferior to other teams, and to never give up. We sincerely believe that we would not be able to accomplish this achievement without his advice and guidance.”

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a programme that seeks to equip students with hands-on training in equity research and foster engagement with industry experts, while helping them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the finance industry after graduation.
