Similar to previous years, TAR UC’s Diploma students taking the Civic Consciousness and Volunteerism Course have once again successfully raised a substantial amount of funds as part of their initiative to give back to society. Their efforts culminated in a cheque presentation ceremony held on 13 January 2017 at TAR UC’s Auditorium. The occasion was indeed a meaningful one as a total of 20 beneficiaries from various charity organisations for the poor, underprivileged, and marginalised received the funds raised by the students.
Overall, the students managed to collect a total of RM138,445.20 from their fund-raising project held from October to December 2016, of which RM119,000.00 was disbursed to the 20 charity organisations at the cheque presentation ceremony. The 20 organisations are as follows:

Besides that, a portion of the funds amounting to about RM8,000 was used to purchase school bags, school books, tracksuit bottoms and stationery for school-going children from Perkampungan Orang Asli Gombak and Sweet Care Welfare Society. These items were delivered to them in December 2016 in time for the children before the new school term started. The remaining funds will be used for charity projects in March this year.
At the cheque presentation ceremony, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC, gave out the cheques to the beneficiaries. In his speech, he commended the students for their hard work and dedication in raising the funds for the needy. “The funds raised by the students at TAR UC will not just be a donation given out to various needy segments of society but it also means making a difference in the lives of others, thus bringing to life the core principle of human justice.”
To-date, more than RM520,000 has been disbursed to those in need and in this 4th fund-raising initiative by TAR UC students, approximately 2,500 Diploma students from all four faculties were involved in various activities in an effort to raise funds to contribute back to the community. At the same ceremony, Faculty of Social Science, Arts and Humanities Student Representative Council also presented a cheque to TARC Education Foundation, in support of the on-going fund-raising initiative for the construction of the Student Centre in TAR UC.
