TAR UC is privileged to be selected as one of the many venues to host a variety of sports activities in conjunction with Hari Sukan Negara 2016. Organised every year on the second Saturday in October, this year’s Hari Sukan Negara which is a nationwide event fell on 8 October 2016.
The soft launch for Hari Sukan Negara 2016 was successfully held on 5 October 2016 at the Auditorium in the Kuala Lumpur Main Campus and was launched by YBhg Datuk Yew Teong Look, Federal Territory Malaysian Chinese Association (‘MCA’) Chief. Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC, was also present at the launching ceremony. The soft launch made way for TAR UC together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Federation of TAR UC Alumni Associations to hold a number of sports competitions at TAR UC Kuala Lumpur Main Campus on 8 October 2016, for the purpose of encouraging more physical activities among Malaysians. The event was opened to TAR UC students, staff and alumni.
In his opening speech at the soft launch, Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok said: “At TAR UC, we will be organising a record of 10 sports competitions in collaboration with both the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Federation of TAR UC Alumni Associations. Through the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ funding, there will be 3-on-3 basketball, 4-on-4 volleyball and 5 per team road relay.”
YBhg Datuk Yew Teong Look in his welcoming speech said: “This would be the second year where Hari Sukan Negara will be held following the call by the Prime Minister of Malaysia who would like all Malaysians to be active in sports as it brings many benefits towards the well-being of the people. An active lifestyle will not only reduce stress and tension but will also increase one’s productivity in work or studies.”
YBhg Datuk Yew Teong Look then proceeded to officially launch Hari Sukan Negara 2016 by signing the event poster accompanied by Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok.
