Five Medal Haul by TARCians at AUG 2024

TAR UMT’s student athletes had their fair share of the spotlight at the ASEAN University Games (AUG) 2024 after contributing two silver and three bronze medals to help Malaysia finish third in the overall medal standings. The AUG 2024 was held from 25 June – 6 July 2024 in Surabaya and Malang, Indonesia.

Malaysia amassed a total of 38 gold, 47 silver and 62 bronze medals, behind neighbours Thailand and AUG 2024 hosts Indonesia.

TAR UMT’s students delivered the five medals in karate, swimming and basketball.

In karate, Yong Kojiro, Song Chan Zhen and Dennis Lim Kai Xiang claimed a silver medal in the men’s team kata event. Madeline Wong Mei Ge and Ph'ng Lebin followed suit with a silver medal finish in the women’s team kata event.

Kojiro claimed another accolade for Malaysia after clinching bronze in the men’s individual kata event.

Meanwhile, students Lee Li Xuan, Yun Jia Huey, Hin Jia Wei, Yap Shi Qi, and Er Zi Jie were part of the Malaysian women’s basketball team that secured a bronze medal.

In the pools, Ho Keesha glided to a bronze medal in the women’s 4x100m team medley event.

In the previous AUG held in 2022, TAR UMT students also won five medals in total on the back of strong performances in karate and swimming.
