The appreciation and celebration for the visual art form was on full display during the third instalment of the TAR UMT FCCI Film Festival (TFFF) 2024 held on 16 – 17 May 2024 at TAR UMT’s Kuala Lumpur Campus.

Organised by the Faculty of Communication and Creative Industries (FCCI), the two-day event featured a showcase of selected short films and documentaries, and a photography exhibition contest, all produced and curated by the students themselves. On top of that, TARCians also got to know more about the inner workings of the creative field through the sharing sessions from experts and industry leaders in the film industry.

“TFFF 2024 is a platform to celebrate creativity and storytelling among TARCians, and the power of visual arts to inspire, provoke thoughts, and evoke emotions.

“This festival amplifies the ‘Beyond Education’ we champion, where there are no boundaries to learning and growing in TAR UMT. Witnessing the cinematic talents showcased here, I am proud of the dedication and passion exhibited by our students and faculty in bringing this festival to life,” said Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT, in his opening address.

Students, staff, and participants enjoying the featured films and documentaries screened during TFFF 2024.

The featured short films and documentaries were also examined by a panel of judges for the awards ceremony which mimics an actual film festival atmosphere.

‘Passed Lover’, a film depicting a young man reminiscing about his ex-girlfriend one year after their break up, dominated the Short Film category, winning six awards including Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Short Film. ‘From Dust to Gold: The Art of Bone Collecting’, a documentary about the Chinese burial ritual of bone collecting, swept both awards in the Documentary category.
