On 26 April 2014, eight students from the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (‘FAFB’), namely, Ngam Li Hsian, Wong Sook Leng, Audrey Amanda Anak Majeng and Mok Rhu Tar from the Diploma in Business Studies (Finance and Investment) programme and Eugene Ng Chung Ming, Chris Hew Jun Yap, Low Wen Hong and Tham Zing Chun of the Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) programme, impressed the judges during the Inter-Campus Business Challenge organised by Wall Street Society of University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus and emerged champions in the competition. The students walked away with a trophy, prize money of RM3,000 and an internship opportunity with one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms.

In the preliminary rounds, there were 21 teams who submitted a written proposal for the competition. 10 teams were shortlisted to compete. In the end, Team Titanium of TAR University College rose up to the challenge to win champion prize, creating a historic win for TAR University College.

Each team was given an assignment as owner of a start-up company where they had to sell their product to ‘angel’ investors. While other teams came up with trendy phone apps as their product, Team Titanium came up with a conventional product. Rhu Tar, one of the team members who was the mastermind behind the ingenious idea, suggested a “money shredding alarm clock.” Their idea was borne due to a famous idiom, which describes time as money.

All teams were to present five problem-solving tasks related to their product and pitch their ideas to the investors.  They were allocated only 10 - 15 minutes to solve each task using PowerPoint presentation. It was a race against time and to impede them further, there were obstacles imposed on them. A team member, Audrey Amanda, who was also a presenter, shared her thoughts on the team’s win: “It was an amazing team effort as each of us contributed our ideas through a brainstorming session. What we have learnt from our studies on entrepreneurship also proved to be useful in our quest to clinch the win.”
