The latest agreement signed between TAR UC and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) on 6 September 2022 is a step forward in strengthening TAR UC’s position in Malaysia as a top institution, well known for its professionally driven academic programmes. TAR UC students from the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business (FAFB) will now be able to pursue CIMA’s Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) professional designation while still studying at TAR UC. This is through CIMA’s CGMA® Finance Leadership Program which is a remote, digital self-paced learning program.

Prior to this agreement, only TAR UC graduates who completed their Bachelor of Accounting (Hons), Bachelor of Business (Hons) Accounting and Finance and the Master of Business Administration are given a number of exemptions from the CIMA examination.

With this latest agreement sealed with CIMA, besides graduates, existing students who are pursuing their Bachelor of Banking and Finance (Hons), Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons), Bachelor of Finance and Investment (Hons), Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business, Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business Management or the Master of Business Administration will be able to enter the CGMA® Finance Leadership Program at Operational level and the first required case study exam will be the Operational Case Study (OCS), followed by Management Level Case Study (MCS) Exam and Strategic Level Case Study (SCS) Exam. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Accounting (Hons), Bachelor of Business (Hons) Accounting and Finance or Master of Accounting and Finance will enter the programme at Management level and the first required case study exam will be the MCS Exam, followed by SCS Exam. In addition, TAR UC students from all these programmes will be able to sign up for the CGMA® Finance Leadership Program at a preferential rate.

Another benefit from this agreement is that TAR UC students who enroll for the CGMA® Finance Leadership Program will be connected with the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (the Association), the global accounting organisation formed by CIMA and The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), with its global network of 689,000 students, members and engaged professionals.

Professor Ir. Dr. Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC shared his thoughts about the agreement. “Our long and solid partnership with CIMA has certainly benefitted many TARCians and with this collaboration, many more TARCians are set to start their careers on the right track. Our students’ track records and achievements especially for the accounting, finance and business programmes testify to the relevancy and strength of our academic programmes as being professionally driven. With this latest agreement, we are able to offer students from many more undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to begin their journey to pursue their professional qualification from CIMA at an earlier stage. And this is the Beyond Education quality that we aim to provide our students where they can pursue their professional qualification within a shorter period of time.”
