“Community interest is more crucial than the self interest”, said Dr Tan Chik Heok, Principal of TAR College in his opening speech of an inspiring forum on Self Identity: People Unity 1Malaysia organized by Department of Information together with National Writers Federation of Malaysia which is Gabungan Penulis Nasional Malaysia (GAPENA), Communication Masters Association Malaysia which is Persatuan Sarjana Komunikasi Malaysia (PERSKOM) and Berita Harian on 28 June 2011 at the College Hall, Main Campus, Kuala Lumpur.

The main objectives of the forum were to increase awareness and self identity of people in Malaysia especially for students from Institution of Higher Learning, to give exposure of the negative effect to the nation due to loss of self identity and fostering self identity in order to ensure the continuity of nation development.

The two outspoken panelists, YBhg Dr.Lim Swee Tin from GAPENA and YBhg Prof. Madya Mohamad Md.Yusof from PERSKOM inspired more than 800 students who attended the forum while YBhg Datin Omi Habibah Shariff from Department of Information led the forum as the moderator.
